Thank you for your prompt replies.
Saving the file with a rich text format worked okay until I tried to open it
again after saving it. Word gave me the message that the file caused a
serious error, so I deleted the rich text format version of the file.
A couple of questions result.
1 - is there any diagnostic that I can run on this one file to see if its
corrupt? I say if because when I opened the Word2007 version of it, I don't
receive the "serious error" message. When I was in the business world and
using business versions of Excel and Word, Microsoft used to place a yellow
"X" on the file document icon in the list of documents of all files, if the
file was corrupt. I don't see that notation on my home version.
2 - is there a quick way to find hyperlinks within this large file?
Note: Everytime this file is opened the disk can be heard spinning and the
icon that denotes a pen writing at the bottom of the document is constantly
writing.
