Font Activation Issues

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

PowerPoint keeps telling me that Arial is not installed on my computer (which it is) and substituting other fonts. The strange thing is sometimes Arial will out of the blue work with PowerPoint but when I go to open it next time it isn't working again...
