Font Book, Word and Mac OS X 10.3.5

I just upgraded to Mac OS X 10.3.5. Now when I enable and disable fonts
with the Font Book utility, Word notices the change without any need to
restart or open and close documents.

Yippee!

I'd always thought that was a Word misfeature. It looks like the hooks
were there all the time and now Apple have fixed their end. Well done
Mac BU.

Thank you for posting this. I was wondering about the font improvements
claimed for 10.3.5! m.

A bit more playing reveals it is not entirely perfect. I managed to get
a different font from the one I asked for on one or two attempts, but I
was doing crazy things like 500+ Fonts in Word and disabling and
enabling rafts of them at once and asking for a new font very soon
afterward.

Also, if you disable a font in Font Book that is used in your Word
document, the substitution that takes place is truly gruesome. That is
to be expected, but on re-enabling the font, odd fragments of the
substituted display remain on the screen until you do something
drastic, like leaping out and back into page view.

Not a biggy, and in sum, it is far more efficient than before.

Wow! Better be careful, Elliott, or people might think you're getting soft
on Word ;-).

Well, I do try to be even-handed in my ceaseless rubbishing ;-)
