font changes size when copying

Hello Group:
I am trying to make some Laser index cards with MS Word 2003 and using
the Avery Wizard 3.0, set for their stock 5388. I am copying selected
lines from a much larger Word document onto the index card template.
I have both my original Word document and the Avery Wizard set for
Times New Roman 10. When I copy a line from my original document into
the Avery wizard page, the font automatically changes to 12, even
though both documents are set for the same font at 10.
Once it's copied, I can highlight the copied line and change the font
to 10, but it's annoying, and I'm not sure why it's happening.

Also, another puzzling issue: I can't use the tab key between words in
Avery Wizard, since it tabs me onto the next index card, a "field" I
suppose.

My original document has multiple lines like this one:
39530 Repair, diaphragmatic hernia (esophageal hiatal);

Many thanks for any insight or suggestions. Confession: I am slowly
working my way into MS Word from a long term addiction to Wordperfect.

Have you set the default font for all new Word documents as Times New Roman
10? (If not, you may need to change the default font settings in the
normal.dot template).

If that doesn't resolve the problem, you could use "Edit / Paste Special -
unformatted text", when you paste the text into the new document. The
pasted text should then use the same font as the surrounding text.

As an alternative, you could allow the Avery wizard to paste with font size
12. When you have copied everything and the new document is complete,
select the relevant text and change the font size back to 10.

Word does not allow you to use the Tab key normally in Tables. The usual
solution is to hold down the Control key, then press the tab key. The same
method will probably work with the Avery wizard.

Great suggestions! Many thanks, Bob. I have copied your advice and
will work on the project this weekend.
