Font color changes without warning in Word 2003

When typing in Word 2003 font color will change from black to white without
warning, especially after hitting return. This happens only intermittently,
and I can't see any particular reason this should occur. It's of course
possible to highlight the white text and format it back to black, but this is
impractical. Why does this happen and what can be done to prevent it? Thanks
for any help you might be able to give.

It's possible that the style you're using has a "following style" that is
formatted as white (though one would expect it would also include a
dark-colored background.

Thanks for your reply. I don't think it's due to the style being used,
because this was happening when users were typing in normal template, with no
particular style being applied. I've used Word a lot for many years, but I've
never come across anything like this before. It's a mystery.

I have to follow up Suzanne's reply and say that this has to be a style
change causing the problem. Next time this happens, don't change the text
but check the style assigned to the paragraph with white attribute and to a
paragraph with black attribute

But can you clarify for us please: when the users hit return, is it the
previously typed text that gets the White attribute or the following text
they are about to type in?

It's the following text they're typing in after hitting return that is white.
The previously typed text stays black. I'll check style assigned to
paragraphs next time this happens (if it happens again). Thanks for your
input.
