Font color changes without warning in Word 2003

I have come across a strange problem on some computers that have Office 2003
installed. The font color will change without warning from black to white,
especially after hitting Return. It can of course be changed back by
highlighting and manually changing text back to black, but this is
impractical. My question is: why does this happen and what can be done to
prevent it? Thank you for any help you can offer.

Since no one else has ventured a solution. You might check the Styles for
the document. I suggest deleting the offending sytly as no normal printer
can print white.
