how can i change the font color to add notes to an existing page. i want to
color to be different as i type. i know i can change color after i have
typed the comment. thanks.

Change the color first (with the button on the formatting toolbar) then
type.

You can change the default font color <Tools | Options | Editing> before
typing on this page so all newly created containers on the page will have
this font color (and sometimes paragraphs within existing containers) but I'm
afraid this is still far away from the "trace changes" feature you are
shooting for:( The last resort is to click the font button each time before
typing new text as Ben suggests.
