I have both MS Pub 97 and 2002 installed on my Win XP Home SP2 machine.
Also, I have both English and Cyrillic keyboards installed. In my Pub 97, I
created several documents using Times New Roman CYR and Arial CYR. I can
close and open these docs in Pub 97 and they are perfectly readable, I mean,
they stay Cyrillic. However, when I open these docs in Pub 2002, they all
are garbled. Is there any way to preserve the fonts of Pub 97 in the Pub
2002? Moreover, I really do not care to open these docs with the same fonts
TNR or Arial, but rather would like to open these docs with ANY Cyrillic
font so I can read them.
Any help is appreciated.

Mary,
thank you for the reference. I looked it up. Either I didn't understand it
or my guess is right: there is no way to open a 97th Cyrillic publication in
the Pub 2002. Correct?

Well, it looked nice while I was reading this article... However, when I
attempted to both import or open an *.rtf file in the Pub 2002, I got an
error message <MS Publisher has encountered a problem and needs to close...>
Back to square one.
Thanks for trying to help!

Mary, after the RTF failed, I decided to try something else. I opened a
Cyrillic pub file in the Pub 97 and saved it in the *.doc format. Then I
opened the Pub 2002 and imported that doc file. Guess what? The file opened
in Cyrillic and even the endnotes were there! Of course, it was impossible
to edit the endnotes, but they were there! Moreover, the Russian
spellchecker worked fine. I could not believe my eyes!
Well, thank you very much for pointing me into right direction. Without your
prompting and providing the reference I'd never try it. You may keep it in
mind in case another hapless Cyrillic (Greek, Baltic, etc.) user asks you
this question.
Happy New Year to you!

I'm glad, for a change, to be some sort of a contributor to this group! And
you, Mary, do a great job! Without you, I never would think about this
solution.
