Hello

I have a problem with Word 2008 on Mac OS 10.5.4 (MacPro QuadCore). I cannot choose the fonts in the dropdown menu correctly. It?s possible to open the dropdown for the fonts in the formattingmenu but if I decide for example "courier" then "Adobe Caslon" appears in the display.

The strang thing is that this problem doesn't exist on my G4 ibook running Word 2008 with Mac OS 10.5.2

Can someone help me?

Best regards
Dominik

What's your update level of Office? Version 12.1.4 is current & once you're
updated run Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions. Also...

When is the last time you Quit Word & restarted it? What you describe is
suggestive of a corrupt font cache which may be resolved by a restart of the
program. If that doesn't work a manual cache cleaning may do the job. You'll
find info on doing so here as well a testing Preferences:

Hello Bob

Thank you for your reply!
I tried to repair disk permissions but itt still doesn't work.
Restart of hole Computer and Word2008 did allthough not help.

Well the next step was to try the tricks explained in <http://word.mvps.org/Mac/DamagedPrefs.html>

but unfortunately the problem still isn't solved,....

What can it be else?
Is it possible that it is a problem that I still run Office X on the same computer?

Thank you very much
Best regards from Zürich / Switzerland

2.16GHz Imac running OS X 10.4.11 and Office 2008. The machine still has Office 2004 installed too, although it doesn't get used anymore.

I have the same exact problem described by Dominik and nothing I've done has fixed it. It's driving me to drink (more)!

1. Repaired Permissions using Disk Utility;
2. Repaired other problems using Disk Warrior;
3. Cleaned System and App font cache files using FontNuke;
4. Manually dumped the Word font cache files.

The problem still persists and I don't know what to do next.

Anyone with any other thoughts? Is it perhaps because I still have the previous version of Office installed along with 2008?

I should also add that another machine in the office, an old G4 with the same System version and Office 2008 does not exhibit the problem.

Hello Majus

The only thing that solved the problem was to clear the harddisk totally and mak an new setup of the mac.... now it works even if I didn't gat the reason for the problem.
It should't be a problem to have an older version of Office running on the same computer,... now I have both Office 2008 and the old Office X.

Good luck

You are correct: It has nothing to do with old versions of Office. I have
Word 2003, 2004, 2007 and 2008 running on this Mac :)

Cheers
