Font editing help?

This issue just came up and its a bit annoying. When editing a document
simple task like selecting a word to either change the font size or make it
bold changes the entire document instead of the selected text. Can someone
please help? I don't know if this just a malfunction or if somehow some
function has been activated that originally wasn't.

Any suggestions?
