Font in "Normal" style doesn't display only d'flt font in "Normal.

I am using Word 2003 with Vista Ultimate.

I have "Calisto" as the default font in my Normal.dot template.

In a (440-page) document I want the default font to be "Verdana" and have so
designated the font in the "Normal" style for that document.

However, the font displaying is Calisto even though the formatting toolbar
indicates that the font in the Normal style is Verdana. Ditto if I access
the Style dialog box thru Ctrl-Shift-S.

Why is Verdana not displaying? Any help anyone can provide would be
appreciated.

Thank you.

Calisto may have been applied as direct formatting on top of the font that
comes from the style. To clear direct font formatting, you can select the
text and then press Ctrl+SpaceBar.

Thank you, Stefan. I'll try that.

I never knew there was such a phenomenon as direct formatting so I look
forward to reading about that.

Alas, I just tried that and there was no change in the displayed font.

Best wishes,

Richard

Could you have inadvertently deleted Verdana from the Fonts folder? If so, a
different font would be used in the document, and you can take a look at the
Font Substitution settings in Tools | Options, Compatibility tab.

Thanks, Stefan.

Verdana is still installed per Control Panel->Fonts and no substitution of
fonts is indicated under the Compatibility tab.
