Font "*****" is corrupt and should be removed...Why?

Daniel

I have an iMac with Tiger on it and Office 2004.

When I try to open Word or Excel they'll say it's Optimizing Font Menu
Performance and then say Font "****" is corrupt and should be removed.
It seems to go through ALL my fonts. It's a mess!!

Does anybody know what might be causing this?
I appreciate your help!

Believe it or not, it is probably a corrupt font. Did it really call it
"****" or are you trying to spare its embarrassment?

If it really called it **** and you have a squillion fonts, then it may
be over-reacting to an OS X font cache that is unwell. There seem to be
a few of them, and they require all sorts of magic unix spells before
they can be exorcised. Go to versiontracker.com and snag a copy of Font
Finagler (it costs, but you get 10 free goes before it says
"ka-ching!")
Finagler stomps the lot with a minimum of fuss. You might notice Word
starts much more quickly after Finagler has administered the enema to
the caches too.

Actually I used the "******" because those represent the name of the
font. I have alot of fonts and it does it to everyone of them. It acts
as if all my fonts are junk, but I know they work fine.

I would take the usual steps - run font finagler, delete Office font
cache file, restart the computer, see if things are better. m.
