Hello there.
There is this "bug" since Office 2004. I was hoping you'd fix this problem in 2008 but I guess not :p
Anyways, I'm Slovak so I also type slovak text in Word.
Sadly, when I open a new document (automatically it changes my input from SK to EN), set a font (i.e. Tahoma) and change my input keyboard from EN to SK and start typing some text, it goes back to Times New Roman. It always does that. Even after changing the default font setting.
When I choose the font in the Formatting pallete, in SK input, it automatically jumps back to Times New Roman.
I can only type with my prefered font in EN input. Why is that? ):

There's some screwups with Word 2008 and input keyboards.

In Word | Preferences | Edit, there is a checkbox to "match font with
keyboard". Unchecking it has helped Hungarians/Russians reporting
similar problems. Does it do anything for you? (try relaunching or
opening a new doc after changing the pref)

Hello.

Thanks for your reply! Well, I tried what you said. Although after loading it changed my input to EN but after changing to SK the font remained the same (oddly, it was now Tahoma because I tried to put it as a default font a few days ago, trying to solve the problem). Anyhoo, when I start typing, it was still Tahoma. Hoorah!
Buut, when I tried to change the font to Times NR through the Formatting palette, it ignored me again; it "jumped" back to Tahoma.
But I tried another thing - when I was picking the font, I saw I had "Font collections" in my drop-down menu so I went to Windows fonts and picked Times NR there. It worked :)
I guess it's some sort of glitch...

So it kind of helped, but not fully. I hope you guys will fix this! (;

Okay. I thought you had two problems, but wasn't sure.

So the random font switching is fixed, sounds like.

You say you open up a new document and it changes your input to
English. That's still a problem, right? What do you mean by input?
Does Word change the active keyboard/flag in menu bar? Or does it
change the language formatting within Word so that Word thinks it needs
to be spellchecking English (check Tools | Language)? Or both?

Ummm... input = active keyboard/the flag :D

[but I still have the disappearing of icons problem]

Can you check and see if the language flagged in Tools | Language is
also changing?
