Font menu freezes in Office 2003

This is happening throughout our company. User's click on the fonts menu
within any Office 2003 application and it freezes for approximately 20
seconds before it opens the fonts and then you cant scroll up and down. We
have tried running the office repair tool with no success. I also attempted
running a tool called font frenzy that deleted all fonts that are not
default. Still having same issue. We are running office 2003 professional
on the Windows XP platform. Any help would be appreciated.

How many fonts do you have installed? Too many fonts can cause the behavior
you describe. Something else to check is your printer driver. If you have a
network printer and the printer driver is on the network then the delay you
are encountering could be due to the application searching for the printer
driver to obtain a valid font list. If you suspect this is the case then
remove the printer and add it back using the Add Printer Wizard so the
driver is installed locally.

Hi Matt,

In Word 2003, do you have a local printer driver selected in File=>Print as the default?

If you start Word 2003 in safe mode (hold control key when starting Word) do you get the same issue?

The Windows font cache on the PCs could be corrupted, but that wouldn't ordinarily spread to other computers, but a damaged font
that was used as part of a default set in templates could.
