font menu showing most fonts as blocked out?

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

When in Word, I click on the font menu to change my font. When the font fly-out appears, most of the fonts show with a strike-out line. I am able to choose any of the fonts with this strike-out line and after choosing, the name shows up in the font window without the strike-out line. The font works just fine (I've tested quite a few) so I'm not sure why it shows up in the fly-out with the strike-out over it. Any ideas on how to fix this or what is going on?

I've shut down Word and rebooted my computer several times. Still same problem.

Probably try recreating the Office font cache. Quit *all* Office apps.

Find the file [username]/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office
2008/Office Font Cache (12) and drag it to the desktop. Relaunch an app
and see if that help--it may take a little longer to launch as it
recreates the cache.
