Font Problem

No problems: Bob wasn't having a go at you, he was just explaining that a
turn-around of about four hours is normal in Google.

If you want to spend a bit of time with us, you can configure a newsreader
and get a turnaround of a minute or two. Let me know if that's interesting,
and we'll tell you how to do it.

Your problem is part of the generic bug we have that comes from switching
languages. Word is designed to switch languages whenever you go to the
keyboard for a different language.

Lucida Grande is an old font that doesn't have the upper Unicode characters
you need for Russian Phonetics, so Word will change both language and font.

Sadly, it will then not change "back". It is a known bug.

There's a service pack due out in may/june-ish that will make it better. It
won't cure it completely.

Cheers

Cut me some slack! I'm new to Google Groups, and for whatever reason,
my posts weren't showing up when I made them. I wasn't trying to spam
you or seek "immediate gratification" - that's why I deleted the extra
messages as soon as I saw them.

I'm using MS Word 2004 on OS X. I've decided that I really like Lucida
Grande, and I've set it as my default font. The problem is that when I
switch to the Russian Phonetic keyboard, the font goes back to Times
New Roman. And when I change the font back to Lucida Grande, the
keyboard goes back to my default US Extended. I can highlight Cyrillic
text and change it to Lucida Grande, but it won't let me type Cyrillic
text in Lucida Grande. I don't have this problem with the Greek or
Hebrew keyboards, and I don't have it when I use TextEdit. Do you know
how I could fix this?

Regrettably I don't have a solution or explanation for you, but I can assure
you that repeatedly posting the same message every 2-5 minutes will *not*
get you a reply any more quickly than posting the issue *once*. Newsgroups
do not provide immediate gratification. When - and if - someone has an
answer for you they will reply. In the meantime you'll just have to wait &
keep checking back for responses.

You're welcome to all the slack you need:), but in this electronic age many
people do seem to have the [understandable] expectation that once they fire
off a post it will bring a reply back like a boomerang. Newsgroups just
don't work that way.

It's not uncommon for a user's post to not appear on their own display for
hours - that's just the nature of the beast. Most any of the web interfaces
present the same problem as far as the delay. You might consider using the
newsreader functionality of Entourage or another newsreader program that
interfaces directly with the source server... It won't get you a faster
reply, but it will give you more immediate confirmation that the message was
posted successfully. Unfortunately, once posted a message cannot be deleted
- it remains forever in the server's archives.

If you'd like, it may be useful to look at the following page - it may
answer any questions about the use of newsgroups
