Font size shrinks beyond what's specified

Bill

I have a report that I want to use a custom
page size of 5-1/2" X 8-1/2" two pages per
8-1/2" X 11" sheet. My HP Deskjet has been
set accordingly and the Access Report page
setup also set accordingly.

For some reason I can't determine, when the
page prints, the font size specified in the controls
that print within the Detail Section along with
the size of the controls themselves shrink to
almost half of what they should be. The format
of the controls (there's only two) specify that
they can "grow", but not "shrink".

Any ideas?

Can Grow and Can Shrink shouldn't effect the Font size - it just means that
if the control has no data it can shrink to invisibility or if it has more
data that fits into it, it will grow to show all that data.

Do you by any chance have SmartyPants Acc2007. If yes, I bet its another
'clever' feature to baffle its victims.

No, I don't have "SmartyPants" Acc2007. I'm
currently working on an ACCESS 2003 based
application. And yes, I am aware of how the
Shrink/Grow attributes are intended to behave.

Those same controls work perfectly on a
companion single sheet 8-1/2" X 11" portrait
rendition of the same RecordSource.

I'm stumped!

This sounds like the 'Shrink To Fit' feature that you get in Publishing
programs. Word and Excel 2003 boast of it. Is it possible that this feature
is also present in Access 2003? Look up Shrink To Fit in its Help.
Otherwise, it could be a feature offered by your printer.

"My HP Deskjet has been set accordingly"
My guess is that you have set the printer to print "booklet" and you are not
happy with what the printer is doing to accomplish this.

Do not ask the printer to use booklet printing. Design you report to print in
landscape, two columns, across then down. Set the margins the way you want
them.

That's normally how I'd deal with such a task, but
I'm trying to get creative and subsequently create
a scheme whereby I can print a booklet that is
binding ready. Which means some tricks to set
a special record field during a first pass formatting
so that I can subsequently control the sorting of
the data such that the booklet comes out in
proper order..........sort of like page 1, page n,
page 2, page n-2, etc.

Still haven't figured out if it's Access or the HP
that's re-sizing the fonts.

Evi,
I've never experienced any sort of font size changes as
the result of the "Shrink To Fit" property, either with
Access or my HP DeskJet. Access Help offered no
clue as to conditions relating to automatic re-size of
a font specification, so still no clue as to what's
happening here.

From a post by Bob Howard "Produce report in 'booklet' format", 06/07/2005

Thanks Chuck, I'll certainly look into the FinePrint
product. If it does everything that Bob Howard
describes, it will be worth the price and save me
a fair amount of time.

Thanks again,
Bill
