Font size shrinks in PostScript from Word X, 2004

When I produce Postscript files for PDF documents in either Word X or
Word 2004, the font size will shrink. For instance, 11 point type
becomes 10.8 point type in the resulting PostScript. I do not experience
this with other programs. Is there any way to specify exact type sizes
be preserved?

Hi Clark:

I am not sure how you know that the font size has shrunk? I am not seeing
that here.

Word has no influence over what PDF does: it simply hands the file over to
an external mechanism (either Apple's PostScript or Adobe's Acrobat). Fonts
and sizes should be exactly the way you had them when the document left
Word.

Word has a Shrink to Fit command on the Print Preview toolbar, and this is
the kind of change it makes. However, you would need to hit it
intentionally, it's not something that can be left on by accident.

Cheers

When running preflight on these documents, the font size is flagged and
if one goes to the document properties in Acrobat (command-d), one sees
that 11 point type in the Word document has been rendered as 10.8. You
can also open the PDF document in Illustrator and confirm. In either of
the latter two programs, you can change the size to 11 point and see it
change (spacing is dead at that point of course).

In Word 5.1 or 2001, the same document will give clean 11 point type
regardless of the route used to produce the PDF.

Thanks Clark:

I have sent that in to the developers, I will see if they can shed any light
on it.

Cheers
