Font Smoothing options gone in 2004?

In Office v.X there are preferences to turn OFF the font smoothing in each
individual application. Am I missing these prefs in 2004, or have they
disappeared for good?

Yes, the Office 2004 applications do not have these individual options.
They now respect the choice you've made in System Preferences for font
smoothing.
