Font Volumes in Word 2008

B

I recently switched to Word 2008.

Word 2004 listed all of the weights of a font volume separately. I
could select the desired weight without using Command-B or -I, etc. to
pseudo change the weight. In Word 2008 only the regular weight is
listed. The entire volume is still installed in my System Fonts
folder. The only option to change the weight is to select the desired
weight (bold, italic) or Command-key it.

I assume that Word 2008 has been made "smarter" and accesses the true
weight. Am I right?

Thanks for your response.

I would not be confident that Word 2008 is smarter in what cmd-B, etc, does.

However, I'm a bit confused--Word 2008 ought to still list all the
weights, only now they are in a submenu. Are you not seeing them?
Exactly which of the several font menus are you looking at?

Under the "Font" menu, the font in question displays all the weights
in the submenu, as you mention. In "Format... Fonts" though, the various
weights are not there. Only the single weight, with the option of
selecting bold, italic, etc., This method, as I understand it, is the
same as using Cmd-B, Cmd-I, etc.

Thanks for any further advice.

Right, I see what you mean. I'm afraid I don't know either way and am
not good enough at fonts to test it.

Why do you need to use the Format Font dialog instead of the Font menu?
