Fontpage 2000 Hungapp Issue

Warren

I am running Frontpage 2000 client on my Windows XP Home Edition PC.
Interestingly enough, my Frontpage 2000 has exhibited the hungapp error
since I downloaded and installed Service Pack 2 onto my PC a few months ago.

After I ran Frontpage 2000 and tried to open a .htm web page, I received
the following error signature and associated technical information (which I
copied from the Microsoft problem reporting agent window):

========= Start of Error Signature ============

szAppName: FRONTPG.EXE szAppver: 4.0.2.3821 SzModName:hungapp

SzModVer: 0.0.0.0 offset:00000000

========== End of Error Signature ==========

========= Start of Technical Information (about errror) ==========

C:\DOCUME~1\default\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER3f59.dir00\FRONTPG.EXE.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\default\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER3f59.dir00\appcompat.txt

========= End of Technical Information (about error) ============

Also, I closed Frontpage 2000, downloaded installed and ran Microsoft's
malware detection software. But no malware was detected.
And no, my Norton Antivius shows my PC to be virus and trojan free.

How can I fix my Frongpage application hainging issue?

Run a repair on FP2000 from the Help Menu.

Thomas,

Thanks for yor response and your suggestion.

As you suggested, I ran a repair from the Frontpage 2000 Help menu
After started the repair, I was prompted to close Frontpage 2000.
The repair process took approximately 25 minute (since my PC has
a AMD Duron 600 MHz CPU). Also, during the repair process, I was
prompted with having to insert my Frontpage 2000 CD #1.

However, after the repair process was finally completed, I tried opening
a .htm web page. But the hungapp problem still persists.

In closing, my original surmise about my problem may be correct about
Frontpage 2000 incompatibility with Service Pack 2 (SP-2) for Windows XP
Home Edition.

Isn't there a SP-2 patch I can use, which would be a short term resolution
for my issue? Otherwise, I guess I will have to buy Windows Express Web
upgrade, hmmm?

I erred in my earlier post, in that I installed Service Pack 3,
which I think caused my Frontpage 2000 execution issue.
And, just like it took several hours to download and install
Service 3, I think it will toke about the same amount of time to uninstall
it. :(

I will update this thread with whether or not having uninstalled
Service Pack 3 (for Windows XP Home Edition), cures my
Frontpage 2000 execution issue.

I run Windows XP with FP2000 and have never had any issues with any services pack or other updates.
Currently up-to-day with all updates.

Steve,

Thank you so much! The FP Cleaner utility resolved my issue!
After having downloaded it, installed it, and ran the "Clear"
programs you mentioned, my FP2000 application works without
any problems!

The only issue about running FP Cleaner is that I had to disable
Norton Antivirus auto detect to run FP Cleaner. Also, when
I tried to run FPCleaner Clear the "Temporary" Hidden" Files,
FP Cleaner got hung! So, I merely end the FP Cleaaaner task (via Task
Manager), and reran FP Cleaner, without clicking on the Clear the "Temporary"
Hidden" Files tab.

And, after I finished using FP Cleaner, I re-enabled my Norton Antivirus
application. And again, FP200 works without problems.

Oh, by the way, I did not reinstall the 600+ Mbyte Service Pack 3 for my
Windows XP Home Edition operating system. Why? Because I'm running an old
700 MHz PC having only a 20 GB hard disk drive. Hopefully, Service Pack 4
will be a lot smaller! ;)

Again Steve, thanks for your help!

Best Regards,

-Warren-
