fonts change inadvertantly when deleting text around a picture

Hi everybody,

I'm running WORD 2002.

When I insert a picture (here from a MathEditor "Aurora", also happened with
other applications) and adjust the text around it, like deleting spaces to
place the picture, etc. the font of a piece (in front of the picture) of text
suddenly changes and I have to paste formatting back to the text.

How can I fix that? so the format of the text stays unchanged ...
