fonts in Word

A new computer and just installed Office XP. I had some
old documents that were made in Word, and when I open the
document or a new one, I only get a few font choices.
Only three fonts, but different sizes. I thought
reinstalling would help but it didn't. My system however
does have hundreds of font choices in the Font folder.
Any ideas how to fix this?

Is a printer installed? If no printer is installed, Word drastically limits
the fonts it shows as available.

Yes, I do have a inkjet printer installed. Is there any
way I can import these fonts into Word?
