fonts installed but missing in Word only - they are available in E

I do not use Word often but I do use it sometimes. I opened an old document
tonight and it is not using my default font. I then found that the only
fonts I had were the device font 10, 12, and 17. I do have fonts installed
and are present in my Windows folder. Also, the fonts are available for
Excel and Outlook. I am using MS Word 2002 SP3. Office Pro was originally
installed on my XP system from OEM CD I purchased with my system, however in
the control panel it is listed as Office XP Professional. I have tried the
detect and repair functions but that did not work. I was going to try and
reinstall just Word but do not see where to uncheck the install of the other
applications. I don't care about most but I don't want to reinstall Outlook.
Does anyone know how I can get Word to see my fonts again?

Thank you,
Kira4798

For Word to find your fonts you need to have a default printer driver
installed that uses them (even if you don't have a printer).

Since Word obtains its fonts from your default printer you need a
printer, other than the Generic/Text Only, set as your default
printer. If you do not have a printer physically available then
install any printer driver. Ideally, install a printer that you may be
using at some point so your documents will paginate correctly should
you actually decide to print one.

I must have had one at some point as I never had problems in Word until
recently. I have no idea what might have happened to it. I do not have a
printer so how do I install a default driver?

It doesn't really matter that you don't have a printer, you just need to
install any printer driver that uses TrueType fonts (the majority of
consumer printers) to get Word going again. If you go to the Printers and
Faxes, Add Printer and choose one of the HP LaserJets, the drivers are
already on the WinXP disk.
