Fonts missing in Power Point and Publisher

I am using Office XP Professional with SP3 updates on a Windows XP Tablet PC
OS. When using Power Point, only the default font and size for the template
is available. The drop down boxes for font and size are empty. When using
Publisher, I can get a list of fonts, but I am not able to change the size
because the drop down box for size in empty.
I have a default printer selected for the computer - an HP (as was suggested
in a previous post). I am using the latest upgrade: SP3. I have run Detect &
Repair on both Power Point and Publisher. None of these previously mentioned
solutions has worked.
The fonts show up fine in Excel and Word. It is only Power Point and
Publisher that I am having this problem with.
Can anyone help?

If your printer has resident fonts you will have problems. See if disabling this
feature in your printer driver helps.

The default printer is on a network and it's driver's are not loaded on my
computer. So I don't understand how this could be affecting MS Office.
Also, Power Point and Publisher work fine on another computer running Windows
XP Media Center that uses the same printer. Two computers using the same
printer, but Power Point and Publisher work great on one and doesn't on the
other. The main difference between them is the operating system.

It seems that if the printer's resident fonts were the problem, then
selecting Journal Note Writer as my default printer would solve the problem
on this Tablet PC computer.

Mary, can you please expand more on this issue?

Thank you.
