Fonts not accessible/odd behavior

Saw an old thread that seemed like a related problem, but the 'solution' didn't work for me.

Several fonts, including Eurostile are not available to me when I select them -- something else will turn up in the font name box in the formatting palette. In fact, whatever I select now on the drop down gets checked, but some other font shows up in the name box and is active. HELP!

Any ideas appreciated.

What you're reporting is suggestive of a corrupt font cache or damaged
preferences. Quit Word, shut down the Mac for a few minutes & see if things
improve once you start up again. That may be all that's necessary to clear
it. If not, follow the suggested procedures here:

Thanks, I'll try this.

Just tried all this to no avail. Still, I select a font on the drop down list; the checkmark goes next to it, but it seems random as to whatever font shows up in the listing box. HELP!

I'm afraid that's the only cause I've seen for such behavior. The only thing
I can further suggest is that you try the same basic procedure again using
the information here, making sure that Word isn't running at the time:

Is there a similar issue with any other programs?

Even if not it may be worthwhile to download the OS X 10.5.5 Combo update &
apply it. Additionally, make sure Office is fully updated (12.1.3) then
repair disk permissions. You might also run the OS X Font Book application &
use its Resolve Duplicates feature as well as the Validate Fonts feature.
For the Validate procedure you can Select All in the font list first & it
may take a few minutes to complete.
