Fonts not available for use

I recently upgrades computers and now have Office 2007 Basic on Windows XP,
previously had 2003. I have very limited fonts in my drop-down list now. More
are listed in the font folder, but I can't seem to use them. I am using the
same printer as always. The driver is correct, but I even uninstalled and
reinstalled the printer for the heck of it, didn't fix it. The fonts are
available in Excel and print correctly from that program. I can also open and
print the fonts from the font folder. I tried typing the font name to use it,
but it doesn't come up with the correct font.

Your link just re-states the potential printer driver problem. I'm not using
a generic driver, I'm using the driver from my installation disk. I also
deleted the printer altogether and reinstalled it. If it's still a printer
problem, what other driver should I install?

It is not the fact that you have a printer or driver installed but that the
active printer in Word is a printer that can print the fonts. By default the
active printer will be the Windows default printer. Check your print dialog
and see what the active printer is.

The printer checkmarked under Printers and Faxes as the default is the one I
always print to. When I print from Word, that's the printer it defaults to. I
tried opening a document and changing the printer to another one in our
office, but the list of fonts did not change.

Word's relationship with the printer driver is very close - much more so
than most other software - and provides its ability to format the document.
If the fonts are not displayed it suggests that active printer driver cannot
print the fonts from Word. Word will not for example display screen fonts
nor will it display Adobe fonts if it is switched to use only Truetype
fonts. If the printer is configured to use its internal fonts, it may only
display those. Check your printer driver settings. What are the fonts that
it does not display?

How can I tell what the printer driver settings are or whether it's
configured to use internal fonts? The only driver info I can find says it's
for Intel Windows 2000 or XP, the processor is hpzpp3xt, and the Default Data
Type is RAW. Under "About" it says the driver file is HPW98003.GPD dated
5.12.2005.
I used to use Lucida Handwriting a lot, but it doesn't come with Office
Basic. So I was looking for some type of script or anything similar. There
are a few shown in the Fonts folder, but the only ones listed for use are all
basic lettering.

This is the same printer I used with Word 2003. What changed?

Go to Start | Settings | Printers, right-click on your printer and choose
Properties. Explore the various tabs.

Also, in the Fonts folder, go to Tools | Folder Options | TrueType Fonts and
make sure that "Show only TrueType fonts in the programs on my computer" is
not checked.

The information you posted from printer Properties had to do with the
drivers, not font settings. There are often settings specifically regarding
fonts (telling the printer to download them as "soft fonts" or "bitmaps,"
for example).

General | Printing Preferences | Details with one driver and General |
Printing Preferences | Advanced with another. For the DJ6122, there is no
setting that I can find. This is under Windows XP. Under Windows 2000, I had
different drivers with different settings. So ymmv.

Believe me, I've checked out every tab available, learned a lot, but nothing
regarding fonts. I have a DJ9800. I've searched HP's help also and there's
nothing about fonts there. I tried choosing a different printer, and I get
the same font list, but all printers available to me are HP. This happened
when I got my new computer, but I installed the printer with the same disk as
the first install, so I can't help but keep thinking it has to do with Word
2007. My old computer had 2003.
