Fonts supplied with Office 2003 not available in word

Andrew

Hi.
I've looked through the Office and XP Pro groups and am unable to find a
solution to my particular issue.

The Arial Narrow Bold, Arial Narrow Bold Italic and Arial Narrow Italic
fonts can't be selected in any applications on 3 new Pcs that have been
installed. I have worked through posts seen regarding printer driver issues,
font cache, font folder permissions etc.

I can confirm the fonts are installed, both in the folder and by their
addition to the font listing in the registry.

If you manually type the font name into the font selection drop down in Word
it does give you the font....you just cant select it from the drop down list.

This causes an issue as Adobe products used to publish also can't select
these fronts and they are the defualt fonts used in several publications
created here.

These three machines are fully patched XP & Office 2003 Pro.

Any help would be appreciated
regards

Hi Andrew,

You can type almost anything you want in the font name box, even fonts that don't exist and Word will believe you :)

if the font appears in correct preview in the Windows control Panel font applet, then in Word under File=>Print do you have a
printer selected that is true type capable?

If so, if you start Word while holding the ctrl key does the font appear in the Font list?

Hi Bob.

Thanks for your prompt reply.
We've double checked the printer settings. It's a Ricoh, set to 'Download as
True Type' and 'Use Printer Fonts'.

Also tried as you suggested, starting word in safe mode without any luck. We
can see Arial Narrow in the Font List, not Arial Narrow Bold, Arial Narrow
Bold Italic and Arial Narrow Italic.

From what I can see it is only these three fonts that don't show

There are 28 XP machines on site, all using the same printer, we've cross
referenced driver set-up pages to look for discrepancies...and there aren't
any.

Oddly enough, I'm back at my office and have just checked my Vista Business
/ Office 2007 machine and it also only shows Arial Narrow, yet looking in the
Fonts folder confirms that Arial Narrow Bold, Arial Narrow Bold Italic and
Arial Narrow Italic are installed.

Go figure?

I'll return one of the machines I've just disconnected to the network and
see If I can replicate the fault by reinstalling the printer and adding
Office 2K3 SP3

Thank you.

Hi Andrew,

It won't usually show the italic/bold variants as separate fonts within Word as those can invoked by applying the bold or italic
variants to text in Word. The same would be true of regular Arial and Times New Roman.

Hey there,

I am having the same issue we have ricoh printers here. I have
done the following

-removed adobe 8.12
-installed adobe 6.0
-worked with my print drivers (printing preferences)
-deleted the font in question
-re installed font
-gave ownership of the windows folder to the AD user.

I am still getting errors. Here is what I am going to do next.
-uninstall Adobe v 6.0
-install Adobe v5.0
other then that not sure what to do.
