footer in Word 97

Hello from chilly Minnesota.
I have a document that I drafted and each page is to have a signature line
and the page number at the bottom (in the footer). Done this many times
without trouble, but I have a draft of a current project (a Trust document)
and the footer is surroundged by forward leaning slashes instead of a box
surrounded/bordering th entire footer area. I can not delete this format of
the footer in order to have the format with the border made up of -------
marks. This border shows only in the page layout view and not on the final
printed document. What has happened? Thank you.

Scott,

I've tried to duplicate that one by fiddling with the format options once
you "View headers/footers." I can select some fancy borders for the footer
but didn't see one that used a slash.

If you delete the footer and recreate it, do the slashes come back?

Maybe you could save the text of your doct to a blank page and then recreate
the footer.

Sorry, this is a lame attempt at a workaround.
