Footer Not Printing Correctly

Hi --

I created a letterhead template that has colored text in the bottom
footer. The color was based on matching a pantone chip, and has come
through perfectly in any other incarnation, such as fills in a box, or
text on a page. However, when the color is used in the footer, it comes
through differently. I also used another color, derived in the same way,
and it looks fine. Does anyone have any ideas why this isn't working?

Thanks for the help.

No, I don't know why it's happening, except to say that my friend Donna the
Printer tells me that RGB colour is not sufficient to match all possible
Pantone colours. Microsoft Office can currently handle only RGB colour.

The colour of "text" in Word depends on which version of Word you have.
Early versions were limited to 16 text colours, newer ones to 16-bit colour,
and Word 2004 will do 24-bit RGB colour in text.

But a text colour is a text colour is a text colour in Word. If you are
telling me that txt on the body of the page and text in the header are
different colours, I would say the problem is elsewhere, because the TEXT
colour gamut is the same in all parts of a Word document.

However, the colour gamuts of various other objects, such as table fills,
are still in 16-bit colour, not 24-bit. Depending on the Pantone colour you
are attempting to match, that could produce quite a pronounced colour
variation.

Hope this helps

Hello Gatsby003-

John's response is right on target, especially if the item the first
color was applied to in the footer is not the same as what it was
applied to in the document layer. What might help is to create the
footer content in the document layer using that color, then cut & paste
it to the footer.

The other color you refer to is probably one of those that are
available in both CMYK and RGB gamuts (or spectrums), whereas the first
color is not. Since the Pantone colors are based on CMYK formulations
and have to be "translated" into RGB by Word there is no guarantee it
will be translated the same way twice.

If color fidelity for printed output is important, you will probably
have to take a somewhat different approach so that the correct inks
will be applied at press time.

Hope this is useful |:>)
