Footer switches auto-text to french on english word

I have an unusual problem. Every time a client of mine goes to the
footer and tries to modify it the auto-text shows up in French even
though she only has English as the installed language. How could this
have happened and what can I do to get rid of it? It is MS Word 2000
with all applicable patches installed.

Go back into the Footer and select it. Then go to Tools, Language, Set
Language and select English and click on Default.
