Footnote is different in preview (Word 2004)

The strangest thing:

I got a Footnote as a template of three pictures in Word (Office 2004).
When I press Print and then Preview or OK, one of the pictures has
changed in another picture somewhere on my drive. This doesn't happen
with the same document printed in Office X.
Is this is a bug or is this fixable?

If you have links in your document, the default setting is for Word to
update all links before printing (controlled under Word | Prefs, Print tab),
and Print Preview will also update links.

So you must have these linked. In both the affected documents, view field
codes (Word | Prefs, View tab, check "field codes") and you should see some
expressions starting and ending with { } in your doc. Those are the
links--the pictures that change should have just vanished to be replaced
with the field code for the link.

You should be able to delete the link and instead place the picture using
simple copy and paste, or in the Insert dialog, be sure to *not* check "link
to file" (which creates a link).

This doesn't make any sense to me:

How is a footnote a template? And what do the pictures have to do with it.

Unclear. What exactly has changed?
