Windows XP SP2
I insert a lone footnote at top of page #18 and for some
reason the footnote is located first in order on page #19
with a continuation line. I have tried deleting the text
on the page and the footnotes and I cannot get the
footnote to locate properly on the same page as the note
reference number. Please help anyone.

I have a fix on the MS site and all appears repaired.

I finally found this via GOOGLE:

WD2002: Footnote Appears on Wrong Page
The information in this article applies to:
Microsoft Word 2002

This article was previously published under Q291179
For a Microsoft Word 2000 version of this article, see
201130.

SYMPTOMS
When you open a Microsoft Word 97 document in Word 2002,
the first footnote appears on the second page, even
though the reference to it appears near the top of the
first page. This problem also occurs in earlier versions
of Word.

WORKAROUND
In Word 2002, a compatibility option preserves the layout
of footnotes as they were in Microsoft Word 6.0 for
Windows, Microsoft Word for Windows 95, and Microsoft
Word 97 for Windows. This option is turned on by default
in Microsoft Word 2002. To view or change this option,
follow these steps:
Open a new blank document.
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the
Compatibility tab.
In the Recommended options for list, click Microsoft Word
97.
In the Options list, click to clear the Lay out footnotes
like Word 6.x/95/97 check box.
Click OK.
When you repaginate the document, the footnote is moved
to the previous page where it would have appeared in Word
97.
