Footnote

I use Word v 2003

When I want to search footnotes I have to go through the following sequence:
1. press Ctrl + F to bring up the search dialog
2. tick the checkbox
2. select footnote option in the drop down,

Can I automate this or set is as a default?

TIA/gary

By "Search footnotes," do you mean "go to the next footnote," or do
you mean looking for specific text in a footnote?

To go to next footnote, you can also press Ctrl-G and select Footnote
from the dropdown and type its number in the box; or you can click the
circle between the double-arrows (see my answer to your other
question) and choose Footnote, then those arrows will take you to the
next or previous footnote.

Thanks but what I want to do is quickly find the next occurrence of the word
I am searching. For example, if I want to search for Daniels word tells for
for example there are three instance. It takes me to the first instance. To
find the second and third I have to carefully use the scroll bar on the
screen looking for the black blob highlight it. I'd like to be able to go
straight to the second instance and then the third instance

If your cursor is in a footnote, then clicking "Find Next" in the Find
panel, or clicking the double-arrow below the scroll bar, will take
you to the next occurrence in a footnote.

Apparently you've used the "Find All" tool to find all the occurrences
at once.

Tkx.

Putting the cursor into the footnote first was the secret!
