footnotes counted incorrectly

Hi,
I am editing a Word document that already has footnotes in it. When
add a footnote now Word doesn't count correctly; the footnote I entere
should be no 10, but Word counts it (automatically) as no 5.
What can be done

Did YOU create this document, or did you receive it from someone else
The reason I ask is they may have manually created some of th
footnotes (some people don't know Word does it for you and count
automatically). Make sure none of them are in text boxes. If you pu
your cursor over the number of the footnote (at the bottom of the page
and click, it should take you to the footnote reference in the documen
if Word generated it
