footnotes

After creating a SmartArt graphic layout into my Word document, into which I also inserted text, I need to also add footnotes within the text. Although it goes through the motions, the footnote number appears outside the graphic at the top of the page, instead of within the graphic where the text appears. Is this not possible?

Sorry, SmartArt *graphics* are not a part of the text flow - they're graphic
objects anchored to or embedded in the text. Therefore they cannot have
footnotes within them. If you can describe in detail what you need to
accomplish perhaps there are alternatives to be offered.
