I know this topic has been discussed previously, but I cannot resolve the problem on my MacBook. I am using Entourage 2008, and am receiving this dreaded message along with a blank e-mail when receiving a Canada Post delivery notification. I found the "Customize Entourage 2008 Attachment settings" page here:

<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/itpros...ent&usid=637982E5-641A-500C-152F-24689F2389E4>

I can follow the instructions up to #7. After that, I can't make it work. I installed PlistEdit Pro 1.4.1, and can open up the renamed .plist file in the editor.

The instructions read:

#8. Delete all individual String entries, but do not delete the Dictionary and Array entries.

#9. In the AllowedAttachments list, create String entries for any file types that you want to allow.

You can specify a file type by using a FilenameExtension, a MIMEContentFileType, or a MacOSFileType.

Create the String entry as a child entry under the corresponding Array type.

#10. In the UnsafeAttachments list, create entries for any file types that you want to block.

It is not necessary to specify file types that are already blocked in the default .plist file.

#11. Save, and then close the file.

#12. Quit, and then restart Entourage.

Regarding #9, how do I tell which file types I want to allow? For now, I only want to be able to read the damn Canada Post delivery confirmation notice, and I can't tell what kind of file it is, because I can't see it! D'oh!

I'm wondering if anyone has successfully edited the .plist file and can give me some guidance. This is incredibly frustrating.

Thank you.

Thank you Diane for your response, and in advance for any help or guidance you might provide. I don't know how to edit the file in the Plist editor. I fumbled around for a while, but any changes I made would always be rejected by the editor when I tried to save them.

Thank you Diane for your response, and in advance for any help or guidance you

the editor when I tried to save them.

I was told this:

If you look in the source of the message (Option-Command-U), you'll get the
extension of the attachment (doing a Command-F search for "filename" helps).
This is how I found out which ones I had to add to my list (ie "scpt")...

If I had an example, I could try it myself. I've never received an
attachment to even try this. Could you "forward as attachment" an example to
me off list, if the above does not help out.

Send me an email:

Hello Diane. I tried looking in the source of the message for the extension of the attachment but couldn't find anything. The attachment is embedded right into the e-mail, i.e., it doesn't appear as a separate attachment in the message received.

I will "forward as attachment" to you off list as requested.

Thank you.

No. One other person had trouble. Try sending again using

dianeross at mvps dot org <-- fix before replying.

Prefix your subject with: newsgroup response

Use "Forward as Attachment"

I will forward it again. The original forward was sent to dianeross at entourage dot mvps dot org.

I have this annoying message too. I follow the instructions with the plist, and it still doesn't solve it. I view the message and can't find the attachment type, or if the e-mail was using javascript. I'd like to customize my Entourage to turn this off, or have it trust an e-mail address completely. IS there a way? Thanks.

No. I would send MSFT feedback.

When working in Office, you can use the ³Send Feedback² option under the
Help menu in all of the Office applications.

If you have an answer or comment for the original poster then please
respond within that thread. Otherwise, if you're looking for a solution
to your own problem -- no matter how similar to someone else's -- then
begin your own thread. Similar problems may not have the same solutions.

This error message is for a completely different feature in Entourage
than the one the .plist file would change.

The .plist file is for allowing blocked attachments to be sent or
received with Entourage. Blocking forms in E-mail messages means that
you can not enter data into fields of a form you receive, click a button
and send that as you would a web page.

This feature has no workaround. You will need to visit the website and
complete the form on the website itself.

If this doesn't answer your question then begin a new thread with
details of your own problem, include your software versions and what
you've tried already to fix the problem.

Hope this helps!
