Force Heading to Top of Column In Directory (Catalog) Merge

Hello!

I am creating a directory in Word 2003 from a .dbf file. There are
about 10 fields in each record and the page is laid out in four
columns. One record is displayed like this:

NAME
Address
CSZ
Phone
<next record>

I want to make sure the NAME field is the first field in each column.
In other words, no breaking up records in the directory. Can any of
you provide some guidance? Thanks a ton for your help, in advance!!

Applying the 'keep with next' paragraph option to the first three lines of
the address should ensure that the four lines always stay together.

Hi Graham,

Thanks for the tip. The thing I had to do is insert a line above the
NAME record and make it 1 pt font size (essentially invisible) and set
everything else with 'Keep with next'. When I did it without that
first tiny paragraph, it didn't work. Any idea why?

Another problem, if that's okay, is that I have a STYLEREF in the
header that is supposed to display the first NAME field on the page.
I have given that field a unique style that nothing else is using (I
checked in the style map) and it is referenced correctly in the
STYLEREF. However, it always displays the first field on the page,
not necessarily the NAME field. Any idea why that is?

Did you apply keep with next to all the lines? You should not apply it to
the last line as you don't want that to keep with the next line ie the Name!
Styleref picks the first item formatted in the style you are calling. Change
the style of the Name field to make it the first style to be called.
