Here is my setup:
Exchange 2007 Server
Outlook 2007 Clients with 1 account for exchange server and 1 account for
external mail server
I know this is not the ideal setup, and trust me, I didn't set it up this
way. However, until I can get mgt to let me bring external email services in
house and run my own relays, I'm stuck with this setup.
Internal domain is domain.com the mx record for domain.com is not pointing
to my exchange server. It is pointing to an external server. The users who
are authorized to use external email have a POP3 account setup in their
Outlook client to download the mail from the external email server to their
exchange mailbox.
Problem:
When trying to forward an external mail to an internal domin user who
doesn't have external mail capabilities, Outlook sets the external email
account as the default sending account. Since the user doesn't have external
mail, it is being rejected on the external mail server.
Need to figure out how to force Outlook to always use our internal mail
server when sending to a user with an account (e-mail address removed)
Users can manually choose to send from the Exchange mail account, but there
is no option to choose the sending mail server when using rules.
We never had this problem before moving to Outlook 2007. Outlook 2002 and
2003 would ALWAYS use the default mail account even when forwarding messages
from a different mail account.
