forcing project template usage

S

storm

Hi there
I would like to "force" project managers to use a template which has
been created. Is there a way to do this, please?
Ideally I'd like it so that when Project is opened the template loads
by default - is this possible?
many thanks

This is a training and performance issue. Train them to use the template,
require them to use it, and then hold them accountable for their
performance. Hope this helps.

How do you think this will force people to use a particular project
template?

Unless I'm missing something, the GET is downloaded everytime you connect to
the server, so if this is customised, it is used whenever a project is
created.

The Enterprise Global file contains the organization's "library" of
enterprise custom Fields, Views, Tables, Filters, Groups, Reports,
Calendars, etc. It also contains the organization's default currency. It
does not contain tasks or resources. So, I simply fail to see how your
solution can solve the original problem, which is to force every PM to
create new projects from a particular enterprise template.

No. It corrupts the Enterprise Global file. That's why your solution won't
work for the original problem.

While you can't 'force' useage of a template you can preload an enteprise
project code on the template and run an SQL select to find projects that
don't have the code. Just an idea, haven't implemented it. You would need to
set the field as required and provide it a single value to check on.

You can deny project managers the right to create new plans. In which
case the project office creates a placeholder plan and then hands it
over to the designated PM (though there is a procedural issue around
editting the plan owner if they do not have the New Project
permission). Alternatively you can create a web based front end which
builds plans programmatically from a selecte template. A number of
clients choose this route. Clearly you need programming resource to do
this.
