Does anyone have a Web resource for standards in formatting foreign phone
numbers? I have googled but can't seem to find anything.

If there is not a standard, any suggestions?

Thanks.

I dont believe there is any std format
eg in UK, London present format is 999 9999 9999 but that is due to change
with an extra digit, in one of the first two groupings, in any case format
is different in many other UK places. You've then got the country code to
consider. So as to the rest of the world? Mobile formats are also different.

There is not a standard. Every country sets their own standards, or
has their own customs, sometimes several of them.

I don't know any *good* way to do it; I just give up and don't apply
any input masks or formats to Phone fields if I know they'll be
international.

Canonical format works pretty well for most purposes, and has the
advantage that most automatic diallers understand it. That covers the
country code and area code (though not all numbers have area codes,
which must be a bit of a problem).

It doesn't really matter how the rest of the number is laid out. Some
countries have strong conventions but others don't.

+countrycode (areacode) number
+1 (416) 555-1212
+44 (20) 7234 5678
+44 (1234) 123456
+44 (870) 512 3456
+44 (8705) 123456
+33 (4) 12 34 56 78
+61 (2) 1234 5678
