Form auto fill in

ok i am trying to build a truck driver check-in for my work. we make bills
in a system and when the driver comes we hand type all the data in a form.
most of this data is in a database i can pull from the system. our system
assigns the bills we create numbers. in a form if we enter this number in a
field can i get the other fields to automaticly pull the other info to the
form based on the number i put in?

i can build a query with the information i need, but i don't know if it is
possible if in the form enter the number in and default the other information
needed.

can someone point me in the right direction?
