Form controls refuse to work

I have a problem with using the form controls like text box, check box,
drop down list etc.

For example, after i clicked Check Box Form Field on the forms toolbar
and tried to insert a check box on my document, all that appeared was a
square. I could not check or uncheck the box just by clicking it. To do
that, I must right click on it to change its default value under
Properties.

The same problem applied for dropdown list. I had added all the
drop-down items to be displayed but what comes out is not a drop down
list but only a rectangle that contains my 1st drop-down item.

This is so even for textboxes. I cannot even type anything in the text
box.

Why is this so?

Have you protected the document for forms?

I don't think I have protected the document, because under Tools, the
option available is to Protect Document instead of Unprotect Document

Well, you need to protect if for the formfields to work.
