Such a macro could slow Word down sufficiently to really frustrate your
user. This is essentially intercepting and monitoring all keyboard input. It
would take a very fast computer with lots of RAM to have any chance of being
transparent to the user. It will also frustrate your users because if they
are typing along suddenly they will be typing in a different (and likely
inappropriate to what they are typing) field.
If you are going to invest this much time in setting up a macro, you might
be better off preparing a UserForm to gather your data. Such features are
added to such a custom dialog box much more easily than is the case with
online forms (the kind you are talking about).
Which version of Word are you using? What is your operating system? What are
the characteristics of the computers that will use this? Speed? Amount of
RAM? Hard disk space?
