Form letter/mail merge

I need to create a form letter to send to new customers as the
customers are added to our database. I tried to do a mail merge, but
Word doesn't seem to recognize any queries with parameters. Since I
want to choose the customer when I print, I need the parameter. I
tried to set it up in Access, but can't seem to make Access accept
large blocks of text. Any ideas on where I am going astray?
