Form looks at dates before 1900 as invalid

[joe smith]

I created a form with a date field that is nothing special. The date is
simply formatted MM\dd\yyyy.

When I try to enter any date before 01/01/1900, it gives me the error that
"a valid date or time is required"

Any ideas???
