Form posting errors

Andrew Chalk

I have used one of the FP2003 templates to create a web site. When I fill in
one of the forms I get the error:

FronPage Error

Webmaster: Please see the server's application event log for more details.

Where is this log and what is it called?

Thanks.

Your host has access to it
- contact them
Make sure that they support the FP SE and if sending Email they have enabled Email Transport
- you also must publish the site in FP using http mode (not FTP)

Post a URL to the form page on line

We can't access your site on the local machine address you provided.

In order for forms and the forms to email transport to work, you must have
the FP server extensions installed, a smtp mail server, and the forms to
email transport enabled and properly configured in the FP server extensions.

In my question I asked where these were.

There is nothing in the "Windows Event Log" if that is what is referred to.
There is no error indication in the IIS log.

Is there some other log?

Thanks,

- A

In fact, the template that I am using says that results of the survey are
written to _private/inforeq.txt. This file is 0 bytes. I have changed its
permissions to giv e 'Everyone' full control. Is this the problem?

Regards.

Your root web is http://66.138.76.173/
- it should have the _private folder with the write permissions assigned by FP (don't change them)
Your form is in a folder 1 level below the root web at http://66.138.76.173/RecollectRecording/
RecollectRecording does not appear to be a FP Subweb so it does not have a _private folder
So the form page needs to save to ../_private/inforeq.txt (not _private/inforeq.txt)
- and inforeq.txt must exist in that folder in the root web
