Form Preview and Print Preview Different

J

Jason Stevens

I am just trying to modify the expense sample form but when I print preview
it looks different than when I do Preview Form. The Preview Form is how I
want it to look but when I print preview it some of the text boxes extend to
the right farther than what they should and column widths get wider. Any
explanation of this would be very helpful.

Thanks,

Hi Jason,

Take a look at the following Knowledge Base article and see if this helps:

Some of the text at the right margin of an InfoPath 2003 form does not
print or does not appear in Print Preview (835472)

I'm having the same problem. Jason, I don't think this article applies (at
least from what I can tell) - in my case at least, my form is based on a
table and everything is in one row, so nothing should exceed the maximum
possible width. It's not that things don't print, it's that some of the text
boxes move down onto the next line when I want them to stay on the same line
as the label. I've tried making the problematic boxes smaller, but it doesn't
make a difference. I'm thinking there must be some setting or something that
I inadvertently set for these particular boxes, but I can't find anything.

Any more suggestions?

Jen,
I have changed all of my tables so the the max width is 650 pixels instead
of trying to do 8 or 10 inches and now they both display and print
correctly. When I print it makes it fit a whole page and is not just 650
pixels wide. I'm not sure why but this fixed the problem but it does make
things a little more difficult because rather than having a box that is 2
inches it is so many pixels. Very confusing.

Thanks Jason - unfortunately, this hasn't solved my problem (although the
default column width for the table was 651 px, for some strange reason). I
still get some fields that show fine on my form view, but go onto a second
line in print preview.

Under Format - View Properties try setting "Use a custom layout width for
this form" to 650.

That didn't work either. :(

I did finally fix it, although it's not really the solution I wanted. Both
the problematic text boxes were on lines with more than one item (i.e., there
was another text box to their left), and they both had the "wrap" feature on.
When I turned off wrapping, it worked fine. I guess there is a limitation in
that you can't wrap text in text boxes that aren't at the far left of the
screen? Not sure. But at least it's working fine now.

Thanks for the suggestions!

InfoPath has several defects with the right margin. We have a big bold title
for a form and we have it centered. Infopath will shave off the left side in
some cases. You look at the form in design view and it thinks there is text
on the right side when it is just white space.

We have textboxes within a paragraph. We justify the paragraph. Some data
fields move to the right and cut off some of the data. We unjustify the
paragraph and the data behaves fine. We had to manually had extra spaces to
simulate justified paragraphs.

Whatever QA tester/test scripts for on the right margins need another QA
review.
