Form problems

Pat

I just changed to a new host and published my FP (2002)
web. Everything went fine except that my forms wouldn't
work. Their tech support sent me this msg: "... it
appears that this form may not be supported on the type
of hosting account that you currently have. This form is
trying to use Front Page Server Extentions. It is true
that your account supports Front Page Extentions for
publishing your site to a server running unix, although
this account does not have the applications installed to
you this type of form. The form is calling includes on
the server in directories that are not available." They
said that I would need to create all of my forms again
using their control panel, cut and paste code, etc. The
problem is that I don't know HTML, and I created these
forms in the first place by using page templates in FP --
very easy. Now my concern is whether I should switch to
yet another host where I could publish my web and
everything would be intact OR should I try to learn how
to re-create all my forms (maybe I'm being overly
intimidated here). If I re-create the forms I need WAY
more basic instructions than they give . . . where do I
find that? Thanks.

Did you publish using http://yourdomain.com ??

If you published using ftp://yourdomain.com the forms won't work, as FrontPage does not publish all
of the necessary files when using the ftp mode because it assumes they aren't needed.

Republish using http://yourdomain.com as the address. If they still don't work have your host reset
the extensions and then publish again using http://yourdomain.com

Pat,

It sound like the host doesn't support FP send form results to email, in which case you will either
need to use the host's form handler script or move to another host that does support FP form, but
you need to check first.

For a host that support this, see the YCOLN Hosting link on my site below.

Yes, I published using http://yourdomain.com. My host
(live support) says that my FP forms will not work even
though the extensions are installed because "the form is
calling includes on the server in directories that are
not available" and that my only option is to re-create
all the forms using their control panel. It sounds like
it would take more time and be more of a hassle than
switching to another host. My problem now is to MAKE
SURE that I find a host that can assure me that
everything in my FP web will work with their server.
What questions should I ask?? My web is NOT that
complicated . . . it's www.CanineSolutionsAZ.com if you
want to check it out. Thanks.

1. Have your host make sure the _private folder has write permissions.
2. What is the purpose of this: <input type="hidden" name="OnLineSolutions" value="Version1">
it's not needed. You only need the Submit and Clear buttons.
