Form Question

I have a form/subform based on a master item list. I use
this master item list to order restock items for my
company. I also have a table, internal orders. What I am
trying to do is this:

When I go to my restock form, it brings up my company
information, and in the subform (based on my master item
list) when I choose an item from my master item list, I
want the form to assign an autonumber (serial number to
the item that I select).
